In 2005, I was miserable.  I was at a job that was just not right for me, but couldn't see a way out.  I didn't know what to do with my life, and certainly I had no idea what job to take next or even to start looking for.  An angel of a friend stepped in for me at that time, and helped me quit my job with a severance package.  Relief.

Since I now was free to find a job, but really had no idea what I wanted to do, I decided to take the time for myself and head on my very first solo trip, a backpacking tour across Europe.  I was 24 at the time.

I strolled into our local STA Travel office, and the guy who helped me was another angel in disguise.  Only a short half hour later I walked out with two amazing deals: an international student discount card, and a $550 roundtrip flight to Europe that left in a week.

If you are a student, a young professional under the age of 26, or a teacher, make sure you take advantage of STA Travel's program.  They have a whole line of travel services, but make sure to get the discount card that gets you discounts all over the world, including stays at hostels and 10% online purchases at Target.com, and check with them first before buying your plane ticket.  I've had the best luck with going in and speaking to the travel agent about my plane ticket: he was able to find dates that were cheaper, so I ended up getting a better deal than if I had purchased online through their search function.  They also offer travel insurance, which I'll talk more about in another post.

The STA Travel International Discount Card is only $22, get yours now before you are too old!

Now, where are the deals for people over 26??
